In the next couple weeks, Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp is taking Playboy public. The existing ticker MCAC will become PLBY. Special purpose acquisition companies have taken private companies public in recent months with great success. I believe this will be no exception. Notably, Playboy is profitable and has skyrocketing revenue going into a transformational growth phase.
Porn - First and foremost, let's talk about porn. I know what you guys are thinking. “Porno mags are dead. Why would I want to invest in something like that? I can get porn for free online.” Guess what? You are absolutely right. And that’s exactly why Playboy doesn’t do that anymore. That’s right, they eliminated their print division. Gambling - Some of you might recognize the Playboy brand from gambling trips to places like Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Cancun, London or Macau. They’ve been in the gambling biz for decades through their casinos, clubs, and licensed gaming products. They see the writing on the wall. COVID is accelerating the transition to digital, application based GAMBLING. That’s right. What we are doing on Robinhood with risky options is gambling, and the only reason regulators might give a shit anymore is because we are making too much money. Cannabis - If you’ve ever read through a Playboy magazine, you know they’ve had a positive relationship with cannabis for many years. As of September 2020, Playboy has made a major shift into the cannabis space. Too good to be true you say? Check their website. Playboy currently sells a range of CBD products. This is a good sign. Federal hemp products, which these most likely are, can be mailed across state lines and most importantly for a company like Playboy, can operate through a traditional banking institution. CBD products are usually the first step towards the cannabis space for large companies. Playboy didn’t make these products themselves meaning they are working with a processor in the cannabis industry. Another good sign for future expansion. What else do they have for sale? This speaks to their ability to maintain a financially solvent company throughout the transition phase to the aforementioned areas. They’d say some fancy shit like “expanded business model to encompass four key revenue streams: Sexual Wellness, Style & Apparel, Gaming & Lifestyle, and Beauty & Grooming.” I hear “we’re just biding our time with these trinkets until those dollar dollar bill y’all markets are fully up and running.” But the truth is these existing revenue streams are profitable, scalable, and rapidly expanding Playboy’s e-commerce segment around the world.

Ben “The Bridge” Kohn is an interesting guy. He’s the connection between Rizvi Traverse and Playboy. He’s both CEO of Playboy and was previously Managing Partner at Rizvi Traverse. Ben seems to be the voice of the Playboy-Rizvi partnership, which makes sense with Suhail’s privacy concerns. Kohn said this:

These guys are good. They have a proven track record of success across multiple industries. Connections and money run deep with all of these guys. I don’t think they’re in the game to lose.
I was going to write a couple more paragraphs about why you should have a look at this but really the best thing you can do is read this SEC filing from a couple days ago. It explains the situation in far better detail. Specifically, look to page 137 and read through their strategy. Also, look at their ownership percentages and compensation plans including the stock options and their prices. The financials look great, revenue is up 90% Q3, and it looks like a bright future.

I’m hesitant to attach this because his position seems short term, but I’m going to with a warning because he does hit on some good points (two are below his link) and he’s got a sizable position in this thing (500k+ on margin, I think). Current Cultural Significance and Meme Value: A year ago I wouldn’t have included this section but the events from the last several weeks (even going back to tsla) have proven that a company’s ability to meme and/or gain social network popularity can have an effect. Tik-tok, Snapchat, Twitch, Reddit, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter. They all have Playboy stuff on them. Kids in middle and highschool know what Playboy is but will likely never see or touch one of the magazines in person. They’ll have a Playboy hoodie though. Crazy huh? A lot like GME, PLBY would hugely benefit from meme-value stock interest to drive engagement towards their new business model while also building strategic coffers. This interest may not directly and/or significantly move the stock price but can generate significant interest from larger players who will.
Bull Case: The year is 2025. Playboy is now the world leader pleasure brand. They began by offering Playboy licensed gaming products, including gambling products, direct to consumers through existing names. By 2022, demand has skyrocketed and Playboy has designed and released their own gambling platforms. In 2025, they are also a leading cannabis brand in the United States and Canada with proprietary strains and products geared towards sexual wellness. Cannabis was legalized in the US in 2023 when President Biden got glaucoma but had success with cannabis treatment. He personally pushes for cannabis legalization as he steps out of office after his first term. Playboy has also grown their brand in China and India to multi-billion per year markets. The stock goes up from 11ish to 100ish and everyone makes big gains buying somewhere along the way.
Bear Case: The United States does a complete 180 on marijuana and gambling. They gain and lose some interest in China and India but the markets are too large to ignore them completely. The stock goes up from 11ish to 13ish and everyone makes 15-20% gains.
TL;DR: Successful technology/e-commerce investment firm took over Playboy to turn it into a porn, online gambling/gaming, sports book, cannabis company, worldwide lifestyle brand that promotes sexual wellness, vetern access, women-ownership, minority-ownership, and “pleasure for all”. Does a successful online team reinventing an antiquated physical copy giant sound familiar? No options yet, shares only for now. $11.38 per share at time of writing. I love The Binding of Isaac. It's a roguelike game developed by Edmund McMillen that has virtually infinite replay value. The plot is that Isaac is a young boy born to a psychotic mother who does everything that the voice in her head, which she believes is God, requests of her. After requesting that she kill her son, Isaac fled to the house's basement to escape the sacrifice. In the basement and beyond he has to survive many ordeals and battle various horrors. I'm not entirely clear on what most of these monsters are, honestly. I just know they're creepy. Your main weapon is your tears, which can be upgraded in a massive variety of ways. One of the selling points is that the game contains hundreds of items and upgrades to use while you make your way through a randomly generated series of dungeons. It's all fun as hell and a recommendation of any sane person. If someone you know hates The Binding of Isaac, call your local authorities and Ghostbusters ASAP.
I feel like I'm forgetting something important... What does today have to do with The Binding of Isaac? November... Hm... Oh, holy shit! Rebirth is out tomorrow! The long awaited sequel to The Binding of Isaac is releasing tomorrow for $15 ($10 if you own the original game) and /BindingOfIsaac has been going wild about it for a long time. I expect. For some dumb reason I'm writing this pretty far in advance (Greetings from September 26th) so I'm just gonna hope that what I'm saying is true. For all I know, America could've been invaded by Switzerland and instead of playing I got drafted. Let's just assume otherwise and give Rebirth a 10/10 without actually playing it. Does that mean I'm a real games journalist now?
So, let's say you're a fourth dimensional creature and want to spend the day, which for you is 11,000 hours, catching up on what The Binding of Isaac is. You're in luck, you horrifying omnipresent monstrosity! Let me introduce you to a rad dude named NorthernLion. He suffers from chronic scumfever, and the only cure is The Binding of Isaac. It all started forever ago with episode 1 and since then he's made nearly a thousand episodes of the series. It's just him, the game, and his ever-present decline into madness. By the time this post goes up he might've made more than a thousand episodes but y'know what I can't see the future you superdimensional cheese. Anyway, spend your infinite hours per day watching that entire series and report back with all the wisdom in the world. Or not, because anyone exposing themselves to that much egg is gonna have a heart attack.
It's about time I talked about the community of /BindingOfIsaac, isn't it? Like many other game communities it's a collection of fans who get together to talk about the game, share pictures, make jokes, and discuss whether or not Isaac is a baby of some kind or just a really bald child. Jury's still out on that one. People talk about strategies, items, why Mask of Infamy is evil incarnate, whose dongers are currently raised, and more. It's a pretty friendly community, even for 21,000+ readers. This close to release, I expect, there's going to be- er, there is a bunch of posts about the upcoming release. I suspect that there's gonna be some gifs, some "before rebirth comes out I said I'd _________", and some "____ or riot" posts. These will all hit the front page at some point and merry will be made. Merry made. Lemon merry. Merry Go. We're moving on.
So what else? The Binding of Isaac has taken over my life in the same way Joe Pesci might take over a casino. You want to play Civ V and TBOI is right there, instantly. Wanna play CS:GO? "Fuck you, play me." Wanna watch TV? "Fuck you, play me." I've sunk so many hours into TBOI and yet I still don't have Platinum God. I'm more like a Copper God. Or a Bronze Demigod. Or a guy named Banana Joe who's just really, really strong. Ain't nobody fucks with Banana Joe. Banana Joe once attacked a man with his banana hammock. That man? Albert Einstein.
Alright I've wasted enough time. Time to talk to the moderators of /BindingOfIsaac and have them answer some questions. That, or I might have them write haiku about the binding of isaac instead. Is poetry the currency of November? Only time and the superdimensional cheese can tell.

1. First off, tell me a bit about yourselves.

Elucidater 23, from the UK. Huge fan of this game and have been moderating the subreddit for just under a year. It's been great to see it grow and continue to do so with the next installment in the series right around the corner!
TokiyamoriTV Hi, I'm Toki and I'm also from the UK. I've been battling the creatures in my basement since the game came out late 2011 and roughly two years ago I was invited to moderate the sub by Clapyourhandssayyeah .
Namaztak I make the occasional video for YouTube, stream most days on twitch, and as far as reddit goes, I genereally just hang out in /bindingofisaac being an idiot. Currently shilling my ass off for the launch of Rebirth.
Clapyourhandssayyeah 29, UK. Created this subreddit 3 years ago and it's been a pleasure to see the community grow into the fun, chilled place it is today.

2. What makes BindingOfIsaac so awesome?

Elucidater It's a small-ish friendly community with very little to actually moderate if I'm honest! My experience of it over the years has been very positive, people are usually helpful and eager to share new information about the game. If you go there right now you'll be faced with a lot of people who are aboard the Rebirth hype train, so be prepared.
TokiyamoriTV We have an awesome community which has grown exponentially over the last year but still keeps many of our in-jokes alive and funny. There are prominent members that have been around since the start and also many new people popping up and welcomed in with open arms. I think it’s great that we have this balance making the place always interesting both for us a mods and hopefully everyone who has subbed.
Namaztak /bindingofisaac is so great because it's a big enough community that we actually get posts, some of which are even of very high quality, but not so big that the entire thing is a giant echo chamber circlejerk. Although, with the release of Rebirth so soon, we've all gone a bit insane in the latter respect.
Clapyourhandssayyeah The content the members produce. There's something about the game that has inspired people to create let's plays, music, art, comedy videos and all sorts of wonderful stuff based on the game. The atmosphere here is still really friendly.

3. What has been your favorite post of all time on the subreddit?

Elucidater A pretty recent one: http://redd.it/2j9ebo - It's a fan-created remake of the game's introduction. The reason I like it so much is because it started from a few people in a comment tree building a joke up and gradually came together to result in that video. Random people coming together to share their love for this game, that's what it's all about right?
TokiyamoriTV This classic has to be my favourite post of all time. Not only is it absolutely hilarious but it has some of the friendliest and informative comments I've seen on reddit with an obligatory joke comment string right at the top.
Namaztak My favorite post of all time is this one by Elucidater. I still think about it any time I'm playing and get into a no-health situation. I liked it so much that my hospital split for Super Meat Boy speedruns was named "Blue Baby Care Package" for a long time.

4. For the uninformed readers: what is The Binding of Isaac and why should everyone play it?

Elucidater It's like the original Zelda, except instead of slashing octoroks with your sword, you cry on piles of poop and attempt to kill your own mother. You'll often find yourself saying things like "Yay, I got cancer" or "Hooray, a golden poop!" and it's only $5 on steam, what's the worst that could happen?
TokiyamoriTV The Binding of Isaac is an indie roguelike by Edmund McMillen, co-creator of Super Meat Boy, and Florian Himsl. You get to be a naked child running around his basement crying on the monsters that will both humour and horrify you. What more could you want from a game?
Namaztak It's the type of game that makes you say really fucked up stuff when you don't understand the context. Things such as "I KILLED MOM!" or "YES! I HAVE CANCER!" People should play it because it's just a genuinely good game, and for the money, I can't name a game with better value that isn't completely free, and I've had more fun with Isaac and its community than I have with any free game.
Clapyourhandssayyeah It's a twin-stick shooter, mixed with an old-school zelda room/item feel, poop humour and religious symbolism. It sounds weird, but plays really well. The game design - allowing for crazy combinations of items, along with the procedural content - keeps things fresh. You get sucked in, and suddenly you've put over 100 hours in. It's the perfect 'just one more run' game.

Addendum from the future: Past me is dumb, this much we know. More than that, past me wrote two features talking about Northernlion to be featured in the same week. Now someone will ask: "have you ever seen both of them in the same room together?" They haven't, but that's cause I'm a spooky ghost. Also because he doesn't have a subreddit I can feature cause he's scum.

Two years ago, I took a look back on my life and thought, was the work I was doing really something I was proud of?
As a kid, I was moved from one foster family in Vegas to another. My parents died before I can remember. My daily routine was as such, no matter what home I was in. I worked out my body during the day and read at night to educate my mind.
As life went on, when I was old enough to work, I started out as a floor sweeper outside of a casino. Later, I made my way up to become a blackjack dealer, eventually working my way up to mechanic—a blackjack dealer who is so good with his hands, he can pull any card from the deck. Since I was one of the best, the house only brought me out to handle the players suspected of card counting. It was good money. But, as most jobs, it got boring. One evening, I decided to tell my boss that I would like to move up; do a little something different. He gave me the once over, saw how tall I was along with how much muscle I had, and asked if I would be interested in security. I told him I was indeed.
That’s when I met the man himself. The one and only, Dana White, the modern day Godfather of Las Vegas. Say what you want about the guy; but to me, he has a mind like no other. He had heard good things about me and partnered me up with a guy named Vino. Vino was an ex-navy seal, who had specialized in combat and torture. He taught me a lot. Some of the things I still have nightmares about to this day. Even though the guy scared me, he was honest. As an example: there was this one guy—Jimmy, I think his name was—who owed the house $75,000 and couldn’t pay. See, if you’re staying at a hotel in Vegas, you can walk into the hotel casino and ask for $25,000 in chips. They will ask for your ID, making you sign a paper, and charge it to your hotel bill. At the end of your stay, if you don’t have the cash, that’s where we have a problem. You deal with people like me.
When Dana found out this Jimmy couldn’t pay, naturally, Vino and I were brought in to settle the dispute. Mediators, if you will. We did our thing and got him to sign his car to us, a Mercedes-Benz convertible SL. Since the car was worth about $100,000, the guy walked away with a good $15,000 in cash. See, we were good people. Honest-like.
Toward my early thirties, I had done a lot of things I wasn’t proud of. I felt myself, getting darker and darker. I was getting too desensitized. I also tortured people for a living when they couldn’t pay. Towards this point in my career, their screams of pain became more of an annoyance, but I couldn’t gag them because I needed information. If they had a stash in a safe somewhere, etc.
Also, I wasn’t enjoying it anymore. It wasn’t fun like it used to be. It became “just a job.” I tried spicing up my torture sessions by adding more of a variety. See, I have this potato peeler, right? Only I replaced the standard blades with sharped razors. Believe it or not, that works. Human skin peels just like a potato. You can shave over and over again, and thin layers of skin will peal right off. It’s a very effective method of torture. You should try it sometime. Dana loved the tool; even wanted one as a Christmas present. As a joke, he named me, “The Carver.”
But, anyways . . . not only did I do torture, I was also in charge of disposals. That’s exactly what it sounds like. If somebody needs to be . . . “handled,” I would take care of the individual and dispose of the body by burying it in the desert. Believe or not, this happens all the time in Vegas. And I was the guy who got it done. But, like I said, after all of these years of committing horrible acts, I didn’t like what I was becoming.
That’s when I talked to Dana and told him what was up. I told him I needed a break. Surprisingly, he was quite understanding. He told me I always had a job waiting for me if I ever wanted to return. I told him thank you.
For the next couple of months, I enjoyed my retirement. I had a lot of money saved up. To thank me for my work, Dana had given me a decent sized house and car. I always suspected that he never wanted me to leave town, that he wanted to keep a close eye on me, and I was fine with that. I didn’t even mind the extra app on my phone that monitored my GPS, or the security system Dana had installed in my house with the cameras constantly recording in every room.
Since I knew a lot about the business, I understood how things worked. I even checked in with him every so often, competed in a couple of poker tournaments to keep up appearances, and went to all the UFC events. I finally felt like I had some sort of happiness, but there was always a void in my life, and I wasn’t sure how to fill it.
Then, one night, everything changed. I happened to be leaving the Luxor when I heard a cry of pain from the main road. It was sloppy. Too many tourists around to hear. When I moved to the alley to investigate, I saw a mugging. Two guys. One girl—one of the prettiest I’d ever seen. Then I realized it wasn’t a mugging when I saw one of the guys undoing his belt buckle.
I took a step forward. “Everything alright?”
With sheer terror on her face, the girl begged for my help. That’s when I noticed who the two guys were. Two small-time dealers who used to work for me at the Mandalay Bay. When they saw who I was, they took off running. It didn’t matter. If I needed to, I could easily find out where they lived.
I approached the lady and handed her my cell. She called the police, and an ambulance arrived. I gave her my number and said if she needed anything to let me know.
A few days later, she called. She told me she wanted to take me out to dinner as a thank you for saving her life. Cassidy was her name. At first, I was a bit reluctant. Guys like me don’t tend to have working relationships. I was more in the nature of buying a whore for the night and calling it a day.
Somehow, she convinced me, and we went out. It actually turned out a lot better than expected. Not getting sex on the first night was kind of a turn on. Not only that, she read a lot and was pretty smart. At the end of that night, I went home with a genuine smile on my face and realized that had not happened in a really long time.
We saw each other a couple of times after that, with each date getting better and better. Two years later we were married, which brings us to the present.
Early February of this year, my world was rocked. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the UFC was negotiating to be bought by some group called the WME-IMG. They put in a bid for 1 billion whereas Dana wanted 5. It was then that Dana came knocking on my door and told me it was time to get back to work. Being that it was going to be at least a billion dollar buy out, he needed me there; somebody he could trust to make sure everything stayed in line. I told him honestly I wasn’t interested in torturing or killing anybody anymore. I was married and I wanted to put that life behind me.
He said that was fine. Because of my size, I was only to be there for presence only. He asked me to do it as a personal favor for him. I agreed. So I went back to work, and was there for everything. For the next five months, seven days a week, I would leave at seven in the morning and not come back until almost midnight on some days.
One night, I came home and found Cassidy snuggled up in our bed. I undressed and gently climbed in only to find that she wasn’t sleeping. She asked how much longer I would be working these hours. I told her the truth. I had no idea. She rolled over on her side, showing me her back. She was pissed, and I knew it.
I sighed and made a silent promise. After this was over, I would make it up to her. A trip—just her and I—to the Bahamas or something. The next day, during my lunch break, I walked over to Victoria Secrets and picked out a lovely black bra and panty set. From the lacy design, I knew they would be perfect on Cassidy. For an extra price, I could have it same day delivered to our house. This was perfect, because I had to return back to the office after lunch.
With a smile that my gift would make things right, I paid, and it was sent to my house.
That night, I went home and found that she was dressed and going out for the evening. Not only that, she was talking on the phone. As soon as I entered the room, I heard her say, “I’ll talk to you later,” and abruptly hung up on whomever she was talking too.
That gave me pause. She had never done that before.
“Everything okay?” I asked, setting my keys on the wall table.
“Y-yes,” she said. Her lip twitched. “It was my mom. She’s considering coming down for the weekend.”
My training from Vino took over. Her demeanor told me something. She was nervous about something. About what though?
“That was your mother on the phone?” I asked.
She cleared her throat. Another sign of lying. “Yes.”
“I see. Heading out?”
“Only for a couple of hours.
“Shopping?” I asked.
She shook her head. “Yes.
Verbal/non-verbal disconnect. She said one thing and her body did another. Another lie.
“Want me to I go with you?”
“It’s okay, you don’t need to worry about it. I shouldn’t be back too late. Promise.”
I smiled. “Okay, I’ll be here when you get back. Love you.”
She approached me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. “Love you too.”
That was suspicious. Too suspicious. I waited ‘till she left then hopped into my own car and followed her. I knew how to tail people; I’d done it many times. Besides, it was too dark out. She would only see my headlights in her rearview. For the first time in a long time, my heart pumped fast and hard. I just didn’t know what to expect. Light raindrops dotted my windshield as cars whipped pasted.
We drove for about 15 minutes before coming down in front of the MGM. I waited as the valet took her car. She entered the hotel.
I followed, giving my car to the valet as well. When I arrived into the entrance hallway, I saw her talking to another man. He was tall, though didn’t have nearly as much muscle as I did. He was dressed in a tailor made suit and carried a briefcase. Who the hell does that now or days? Carry a briefcase.
He removed his hat then leaned over and kissed her on the lips. She opened her mouth and tongue was exchanged.
My jaw tightened. A spike of anger flowed through me. I clinched my fist. My wife. She was having an affair. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my rising temper. If I was going to deal with this, I needed a plan. It didn’t take long to formulate one.
After they left, I approached the reception lady. She looked at me with a smile as I approached. I told her who I was, that I was a dear friend with the owner of the MGM, which was true. Then I bribed her with all of the cash I had in my pocket. $1200 later, I had the information I needed. The room number: 712. I also asked for the room directly across from them. It was empty. That one I paid with my credit card.
The next twenty minutes were the most agonizing, longest minutes of my life. I paced back and forth the whole time, my head filled with dark images of what was happening on the other side of that door of room 712. I only hoped they were talking. That was it. That had to be it. They were just talking. I would find out soon. Afterward, I settled on cleaning my gun.
When I was ready, I put my gloves on. Tight. Black. Leather. I picked up my gun and slammed the magazine clip into the well. I pulled back the slide release and let it go. It clicked that familiar sound I was used to hearing. It was calming. Blissful. I screwed in the silencer.
I took a breath, readying myself for what I was going to find. I opened my door and stepped to the one across from me. Without a second thought, I kicked the door open, ripping apart the frame. I stepped into the hotel room and closed the door behind me. I took my hat off hung it on the coat tree. I rolled my neck. Chills ran down my arms.
“What the hell is this!” the man yelled, coming into the main room, his focus dead set on me.
He wore a pink, silk robe that hung down to his mid-thighs. The top half with parted open to give me a full view of his hairy chest. One thing I had to say, though: he had a distinct face, with perfect features. Light eyes, dark hair. Striking jawline. A small, strong nose. Quite handsome indeed.
Without a second thought, I shot him in the face. The back of his head exploded. Blood spattered on the door frame behind him.
My wife screamed. The same fearful screams I heard the first night I met her.
I heaved a sigh and walked into the bedroom. When I entered, I paused at what I saw. The room screamed luxurious with mirrored ceilings, a Jacuzzi in the center and a bed that looked the size of two king sized beds pressed together. Glitter pearl wallpaper was on every wall. And it smelled like sex and cigarette smoke. Cassidy laid on the bed, most likely naked behind the blanket, which she used to cover herself.
She stopped screaming. Her eyes widened. “Benny?”
I didn’t say a word. The anger on my face told her all she needed to know. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something. On the floor, was a pair of black, silk panties. Same style as the ones I bought her that day. My mouth went dry. An emotion swelled in my chest that I don’t know how to describe. Like a heart attack without actually having one. I swallowed. Gently, I leaned over and picked them off the floor.
“Benny, I can explain,” she said.
Anger swelled with me. It was them. I gripped the panties in my hand and crushed them. Though it wasn’t physically hurting them, it made me feel better; an outlet for my anger.
“Benny?” she cautiously called out again.
At that, I walked up to her and hit her in the head with the butt of my gun. She was knocked out cold. I lifted her naked ass out of the bed and slung her over my shoulder, fireman style. With my opposite hand, I called Vino. Told him I needed a favor. A clean up in room 712, MGM. He told me it would be his pleasure.
I left the room and waited outside for the valet to retrieve my car. Even though I had a naked woman slung over my shoulder, nobody said a thing. “What happens in Vegas,” is actually a thing. The locals were used to seeing things like this all the time.
When I got home, I handcuffed her and zip tied the chain to the shower head. Then I broke out most of the lights, only leaving the one that shone directly above her. The rest of the bathroom was cloaked in darkness. I grabbed my work bag out of the closet. In it was my tools. Something I hadn’t used for years. Then I walked back into the bathroom, put the lid down to the toilet and took a seat, leaving half of my body bathing in the shadows. I patiently waited for Cassidy to wake up.
An hour later, I heard her groan. It was close to 2:00am.
As soon as she was decently conscious, I began to speak, “I never told you about my life before you.”
I smiled to myself. “Honestly, I thought it would scare you.”
Her jaw twitched. “Benny, what is this?”
She tried to move her hands, clanking metal of shower head echoed.
I continued. “I never told you about the things I had done, about the acts I’ve committed.”
“Benny? Why am I handcuffed?” Her lip quivered.
“I didn’t want you to think differently of me. That I wasn’t the person who you fell in love with.”
Her voice broke. “I-I do love you.”
I smirked and shook my head. “No. Because if you did, you wouldn’t have cheated on me.”
“Are you going to kill me?”
My smile broadened. “Do you think I'm that boring?”
"What does that mean?"
"Don't worry. You'll soon find out enough . . ."
Her panicked gaze met mine. “Please. I-I can explain—”
“You know, when I first met you, there was a void in my life. And I thought that you were the one who filled that void.”
“Benny, pl-please . . .don't—”
“But that wasn’t it. You were not it.” I paused. “I understand now,” I said, more speaking to myself.
Tears streamed down her face. “I don’t know what that means!”
“See, that void was my old job. I loved doing what I used to do. The only thing I needed was a break is all, not stopping altogether. I-I’ve missed it so much. It was calling to me the whole time and yet, I didn’t answer.”
“Wh-what are you talking about!” she yelled at me, shaking her hands violently.
“Shh, ssh, it’s okay. It's okay,” I soothed. I stood up, shushing her by putting my finger to her lips.
“Let me show you,” I said softly. “Let me show you exactly what I am talking about . . .”
Then I took out my potato peeler and got to work. She cried, screamed, begged for me to stop. I heard her pleas, assuring her that it would be over soon, just to let go. She didn’t. I continued. In some places, I even shaved it down to the bone. After I applied the rubbing alcohol, she screamed so loud, her voice gave out.
It was interesting, as I was doing this, I found true happiness once again. The blissful pleasure calling out to me to do what needed to be done. I cried that night. Why? Because I was happy. It was like making love for the first time, and I was ready to release it all.
Four hours later, it was done. I held her in my arms as she took her last breath, a brief shutter before going still. On the shower floor were hundreds of slices of flayed flesh.
Truthfully, she should have been proud of herself of lasting as long. Most people don’t, though I’d never tortured a woman before. I guess it is true what they say. They have a better tolerance to pain then men. From experience, I can tell you that is a fact. Even in torture.
When I was done, I called Dana. I told him, “I’m ready to come back to work full time. To help you with anything you need.”
I heard him smile on the opposite end of the phone. “Good to hear, I knew you’d back home eventually. They always do.” He paused. “How about I send along Vino in the morning and have him clean up that bathroom of yours. Free of charge.”
I knew he would be watching from the security camera. I didn’t care. Dana was a good guy. I knew he had my back. He probably already had taken care of the security footage at the MGM as well as made sure the staff kept their mouths shut.
“Sounds good. Thanks, Dana.”
I hung up the phone. Afterward, I took a shower, directly next to my wife’s body and cleaned myself up. It had been a long night and I was tired. If I was going to get back to work tomorrow, I needed to be well rested. Then I went to bed with a smile on my face. Everything was great. Perfect even.
As I look back, at the beginning, I asked if this type of work was something I could be proud of. The answer is yes. Yes, it is.

Tell us a little about yourselves.
IFH: This is legit my least favorite question on the planet. I never know what to say. So I’ll just go with the easy stuff. My name is Anthony Luciano. I love comic books and have close to 300 Hot Wheels on the wall. I am almost 30 years old and still act like a five-year-old in social situations. SS: I am a self proclaimed sailor scout/disney princess/mermaid and I regret nothing. I love video games, comic books, other books, horror movies (ALL OF THEM EVEN THE CRAPPY ONES ON NETFLIX, Im talking to you Thankskilling!) and my animal clan. I’m engaged to be married to literally the best human in the universe, I am so sorry that no one else will ever get to experience being engaged to this man because it is a great loss to every other person in the world. I am an analyst for a big casino group in las vegas, I like excel and numbers and figuring things out and IM A BIG NERD OKAY. I love to sing, It was my first thing that made me feel happy in my life and it has treated me well throughout the years. I used to be in a rock band but lately i just fly that solo style. I am a writer, of short stories and songs and very shortly books! I’m working on a novel and a comic book at the moment, on the market for an artist is you know anyone. I fucking love the NS community and how much it has loved us back, there are no words for what this place means to us or the impact the people here have made in our lives.

When did you first become interested in horror?
SS: I don’t know, in utero? haha Just kidding. Although my mother is a demonic bitch so that might work. ANYWAYS.. One of the first and only traditions I ever had with my father was going to the movies, always scary movies. We went to all of them whether they looked good or not. My ideal sick day: Netflix B horror films and bed with my puppy people. So yeah, it was just always a part of me.
IFH: I’ve been “interested” in horror for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the couch with my dad watching “An American Werewolf in London” and “C.H.U.D.” I think it’s safe to say that this genre is in my blood as much as music and video games as a whole.
What is the most terrifying thing you've personally experienced?
(Trigger warning: At our interviewee's request, please be aware that the following answer contains mention of suicide.)
SS: This is the hardest question to answer because I have experienced actual like spooky scares and also things that were sadly terrifying.
The first thing that pops into my mind is a sad one though, keep those tissues close kids!
I got a call from my mom several years ago, she was on her way home because she couldn't get ahold of my sister and she knew something was wrong, now my sister has been struggling with crippling depression and anxiety for quite some time, she had tried to kill herself before. I immediately head there. When I pull up my mom and her boyfriend cant get in, my sister had locked her out through the garage. Her boyfriend finally breaks open a window and i blow past him as he opens the front door, we break down her door and there she is. Her lips were blue and her eyes were purple and she wasn't moving. i sat there holding her and hearing the strangest wailing from my mom, a sound you are never supposed to hear, the sound of a mother losing her child. The paramedics pushed me aside and confirmed what we thought already, my sister was dead. I lived for ten entire minutes believing that before they realized she still had a weak pulse. There is nothing more terrifying than seeing your little sister dead in front of you.

IFH: I don’t know that there is enough space to fit that in. But I can try. When I was younger, my brother and my best friend in middle / high school used to watch a lot of “Ghost Hunters” and truly believe that my friend’s house was haunted. This is due to the menagerie of paranormal things we all experienced growing up there and the fact that a Ouija Board was used in the house’s garage 3 days prior to them moving in. Anyways, because we watched it on TV so often, we decided we were going to hunt the ghosts in my friend’s house. So we set on the grand adventure of rounding up all of the flashlights in the house, a tape recorder (for EVP), a camcorder and some fresh underwear.
We spent the next few nights over Summer break reenacting our favorite scenes from our then-favorite TV show. This particular night however, we were trying something new in our ghost hunting plan. Equipped with a guitar amp and cable added to our repertoire, we started our routine out in the garage, in the same area the Ouija Board was used. A lot of terrifying things happened on these trips, but tonight took the cake. During our EVP session, one of us asked out to the ether, “If there is anyone in here, knock once on the nearest object…” A few seconds of silence passed, and we heard a knock behind us. Being the scientific men we were, we asked for a second time. Two to make it true, you know?
A second knock came from the opposite side of the room. We started to feel a little uncomfortable, but at the same time excited that we were possibly communicating. “Is there more than one spirit present? Knock once for y—“ and a few knocks rang out over the question from around us. “The fuck? It sounds like there’s way more than one…” I was honestly ready to go at this point. And my little brother didn’t look very excited as it were. My friend was ecstatic. His excitement reminded me that we were there to hunt ghosts. And I sat back down, reassured. “Okay… Can each spirit present knock, one after the other, to indicate your presence?” -knock- Rang out from behind me. -knock- -knock- Again from behind me first and then my friend. Then it got out of control. The knocks became louder and multiplied all over the room and began closing in on our position, banging on all of the junk around us until my little brother reached out and turned on the flashlight.
When the beam pierced through the pitch darkness surrounding us, it also illuminated everything around us. I watched as a few bits of junk around the garage settled back down as if something were lightly pressing against them just a second prior and there was complete silence. We exited the garage as quick as we could and called it a night. We played Halo 2 until the sun came up and planned our next hunt out for the next night. We spent countless nights over the 10+ years I knew this guy “Ghost Hunting” and have tons more experiences just like that.
Oh. And I ate a pound of shaved almonds to get out of a geography test once. I’m deathly allergic to nuts. So I probably could have died. That was terrifying. But I got to spend the day with paramedics. So that was cool. Sorry for the wall of text… Next question!
How did you discover NoSleep?
IFH: I have been on reddit for the last 5 years and I think NoSleep popped up in an AskReddit thread about scary stories in my first week and it’s been love ever since.
SS: This one is easy, Anthony! I have trouble sleeping and I love him and his sexy ass voice so I asked him to read to me and this is what he chose. It was a big part of our relationship.
What NoSleep stories and/or authors have had the strongest impact on you?
IFH: God. I love every single one of you scary bastards. But there are a few of you in particular that have honestly impacted me. Don’t mind me getting sappy over here. I don’t mean to leave anyone out or call anyone out for being awesome. But here we go! IAmSpartacus, MikeyKnutson, vainercupidooc, kneeod and krstbrwn, EliasWitherow. I could list off so many! All of you guys have seriously shown me how amazing people can be in a time in my life when very few people were being very good to me.
SS: I feel like I am beating a dead horse with this one but here goes nothing.. Infected town first and foremost because it was this thing that we were a part of as the parts were releasing and I somehow (like the 5 year old that I am) actually believe this shit is real. I am fucking LIVING for that shit to come out. Then we started the podcast and it became something on a different level for us.
Outside of that story there have been so many that I remember, The woman with the orange ruined me. Faye’s trip on a cabin getaway fucked me up too.

What are some of your biggest influences from media?
SS: Id definitely say nosleep, also my fiancé. Does that count? It counts for me.
IFH: Campy horror movies. There are times that I’ll be editing an episode or in the middle of reading it and I’ll stop and think, “Man, i have the perfect sound effect for this part!” or “Ooooooh, I know how I’ll edit this one to make it really hit home!” And I’m always thinking about the sound effects and directing in the original Evil Dead and Night of the Living Dead and trying to borrow the auditory pieces of those films and meld them with the narrations for maximum scary.
Tell us about the origins of Irrational Fears.
IFH: tl;dr - I’m scared of a lot of shit and so are a lot of people. I want to talk about them and know them all.
tl;gra (too long; gonna read anyways) - I am seriously scared of a lot of shit. And I am and have always been a firm believer in nobody being scared of nothing. Everyone is afraid of something. And there are things that I’m scared of that I can’t explain. That I cant rationalize. And that’s where it started. I believe I have a lot of Irrational Fears. I believe that a lot of people feel that same way. They are scared of things and they can tell you their experiences with said scary thing but never quite pin-point why it’s scary. Those are our Irrational Fears. Those are the ones I want to talk about and bring out into the open. I love reading and writing and Sailor pushed me to start the podcast after reading to her in bed one night. And now here we are.
She is my co-host and co-manager, co-editor, co-producer, co-hort, co-love. And Irrational Fears is literally in it’s formative stage. There is so much in the works for the near and far future that this question is going to be so crazy soon…
SS: Honestly, when I found it it was a half empty notebook and a mind full of ideas. After anthony told me about it I told him to do it and that it was a great thing that should be shared. He took off with it all by himself before I was ever officially in the squad. He will tell you differently but this was a hundred percent his baby and I will always be a happy addition to this world he created all on his own.
What made you decide narrating was something you wanted to do?
IFH: One - Like I said above, Sailor convinced me to start Irrational Fears the way we did. She’s the reason it’s narration at it’s core. Hands-down.
Two - I love reading. And I love writing. And I believe that your imagination is far scarier to yourself than mine. If I can explain to you an experience or an entity or creature from this piece of writing, it will be up to you. It is up to your mind to paint a picture of what this thing looks like using only the author’s words to go off of. And if you’re scared of this thing based on the story, you will be scared of what it looks like more than if I were to show you. Because when you’re listening to a horror story, you are trying to dig up those fears and scare yourself. I believe the auditory experience is just as important as any when it comes to horror. And we look to deliver that.
SS: I have wanted to voice act ALWAYS. The singing thing made me kind of used to the sound of my own voice and I was also to no ones surprise a drama nerd so obviously I KNOW HOW TO ACT DUH.
You mentioned that you're engaged to be married. Is it ever difficult maintaining both a personal and a working relationship with each other?
SS: Absolutely not. Every moment of every day with him is ridiculously amazing. Whether we are pulling an all nighter editing or recording for 8 hours a day or just playing video games in the living room. If you want a behind the scenes look at this biz, I am the organizer of the two of us so I TRY to write schedules and keep everything up to date but WEDDINGS MAN AMIRIGHT?!?!?
IFH: People would assume that it would be difficult to be business and marital partners. But I honestly couldn’t ask for a better person in either of those categories. And the fact that they are the same person makes it a million times better. We get to spend as much time together as we like and we get to choose what is business and what is pleasure. It allows for a ton of flexibility and the ability to come up with new ideas on the fly while your co-host is around. I can’t wait to be doing it for the rest of our lives. Whether it’s Irrational Fears or what-have-you. I’m ready!
Other than narrating, what are some of your hobbies? What other creative mediums do you enjoy?
IFH: Like I said above, I play a lot of video game and read a lot of comic books. And if you want to do either of those things with me, let me know because fuck yeah!
SS: Singing, playing my guitar and piano. I like to paint. Writing is such a big one for me. Its funny before I was on the podcast narrating, I was featured on the podcast for my own stories. But the guy who ran it was super into me (still is).
Have you had any formal training for voice acting?
IFH: No, but I do a mean Jim Carrey impression! You ready? Okay… Here goes…

I really like Ace Ventura, so I practice that one a lot.
SS: Not at all. Does it show?
What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of narrating?
SS: I find it amazing to be able to look as stupid or crazy as you need to to get something out right. I think its hard because the back end is so time consuming but as far as challenges with the core of it I don't have any. Maybe that these day jobs get in the way!
IFH: The most challenging is time. There is not enough in a day to get everything I want to done.
But the most rewarding part is hearing from people about the show. Whether it’s good feedback or not, it is seriously amazing that there are people out there listening. There's something really awesome about it.
Walk us through your typical process when recording a story for the podcast.
IFH: This is assuming we have chosen a story and gotten permission from the authors:
Pull up story on phone Hit ‘record’ on Reaper64 Mess up the intro like 17 times 3a. Hear Sailor imitating you saying, “What’s up everybody?” in your head on loop

SS: We have a closet in the office outfitted as a recording booth, the person recording a story pops in and handles it and then it goes to ant for post. I literally do nothing in post, although he just taught me how to cut out all the extra stuff but other than that I DO NOTHING. Hah
Although if its just a normal segment on the show we record at our desks so we can see each other and just talk normal.
You've recorded several popular series from prominent authors on NoSleep, including the Tommy Taffy series by Elias_Witherow, Life is Beta by Hayong, Infected Town by Vainercupid, and the Romantic Cabin Getaway series by TheColdPeople. Do you prefer narrating series, or solo stories? What are the pros and cons of each?
SS: The Pros: They are awesome The Cons: Release schedule, when there are 10-17 parts to a series you have to keep it running smoothly but also don't want to alienate listeners who may not care for that series the same way we do. They also tend to take longer on the cutting room floor if you feel me.
IFH: I love doing series. If I had to choose, I would choose series 51% and solo 49%. Just like… A landslide.
Series allow me to flex my creative and directorial muscles a lot with the expectation of consistency in the entire series. And it also allows me to really reach with some crazy sound effects and stuff to really paint a picture of something familiar.
Solo stories allow me to utilize everything I have perfected in a series and draw in the listener. Although I love them both!
Irrational Fears has partnered with /NoSleepTeams to produce narrations of all the previous winning stories. Are there any stories in NST history you're particularly looking forward to? Will you be recording future winning entries as well?

What story narration(s) are you most proud of? Do you have any personal favorite stories from the podcast?
IFH: Ugh is it cliche to say “Tommy Taffy” to this question? Because I am seriously super proud of every single episode we have put up. Even the ones that we recorded, edited and posted within the span of an hour. But “Tommy Taffy” is something the fuck else. And the community tends to agree.
SS: Infected town for me. Mostly because of how crazy i had to get and that i played multiple characters. I have so many favorites from the podcast, its important to note that i did 99% of story picking so i was reading for hours a day and sending stuff to ant to get permission for.
Are there other genres besides horror, or other mediums of voice acting, you're interested in pursuing in the future?
SS: Drama/Action/Adventure/Cartoons/FuckingEverything
IFH: I am interested in pursuing voice acting full-time in general. I would love to get into comedy or audio drama and make my way forward from there. Horror will always be at my roots. And Irrational Fears will always be my goal. And there is a lot planned for that future that involves these things.
Do you have any favorite listener reactions to your narrating?
IFH: One of our first iTunes reviews came from a listener starting off with “At first, I was not a fan of My Romantic Cabin Getaway” and it brought me down a little bit. But the review went on to explain how sticking with it and listening to the whole series, he got to hear me grow and the show got better with each episode. And that was super humbling and amazing to hear. I am not someone who particularly likes the work he puts out. But is proud of what it is, if that makes sense. But it was seriously awesome to hear that I was growing into it.
SS: We have had a lot of people reach out and tell us that its helped them through really tough shit and that will always be my favorite answer because of how many of those things i had myself with other much more successful people than me!
What advice would you offer to aspiring voice actors?
IFH: Do it. Everyone says that. But that’s all there is to it. You have to do it once in order to do it again, you know what I mean?
SS: Dont be scared to just start. Don't feel stupid. Your voice is an instrument, practice.
What are your short-term and long-term narrating goals?
SS: Short term: get through the wedding
Long term: SO MANY THINGS. We are working on an audio book currently as well as some other serial audio dramas. We just launched a new segment and started streaming. I just want to keep connecting people and creating better content and get better.
IFH: Short-term is to just get a schedule set and get back to this many narrations a week and this many non-narrations a week. I’m not a good planner. I need to get better.
Long-term is to continue the narration and use it as a platform to bring us into new Horror Mediums and continue to bring real, irrational fears to the market.

SS: I would love to work with Scott Snyder.
IFH: The cliche answer that I am trying to avoid giving is that we already work with every writer we want to. It sounds lame, but Irrational Fears exists because of all of the authors and the community of /nosleep. And we wouldn’t be anything without you guys. So I’d say our current author-base isn’t far off from my dream author-base.
What other creative mediums would you like to dabble in?
IFH: I would love to get into film, if anything. Or video games. I have so many ideas on my mind about what would be terrifying to experience both on the big screen and on your game console (or PC if you’re one of those people. Don’t start with me.)
From Hayong: What has been the most difficult thing you have experienced as narrators?
IFH: Time. Time is the most difficult thing on the planet to experience or come across. It’s one thing to go in and record the narration, but depending on the number of mistakes you make, it’ll take at least that long to edit it. Or at least get it cut down. And then you master and I wish I didn’t have to work 8 hours so I could focus more on my time with the podcast and everything.
SS: Um. Workload for sure. Maybe its just the wedding planning fucking me up but it feels like we are eternally behind.
How does it feel to be among NoSleep's cutest couples?
IFH: What do you mean “among NoSleep’s cutest couples?” Because we might be the cutest couple on NoSleep. And then there’s Alex and Kristy and Mike and Chey and Em and Mason and You and Rosey Palm and her five sisters and everyone else in a close second. You know what I mean?

SS: I love you twin sized. DUH.

IFH: I think so many people started saying “Get in my bell-eh!” That he actually got into his own belly and destroyed the artist that we knew as “Michael Meyers” and turned him into the unentertaining husk he is now.
SS: HONESTLY? Do I make you randy baby? I remember actually peeing my pants as a teenager seeing gold member in theaters. I wish he would come back.

From HylianFae: Do you have a specific process for selecting stories to read?
SS: Yes, I read them and send them to anthony. We currently have a back log of a bajillion that we need to do.
IFH: Stories just have to be good. I’m always down to bring something scary to life. As long as it’s good. The makes me sound like a shallow asshole. But that’s about it. If we like it enough, we reach out.
On average, what is a day in your life like?
SS: A day in the life: Lately, work, something wedding related, dinner, weed, parks and rec. Also pretty usually some video games, dog cuddles and kitty carwash.
IFH: Wake up. Drank (coffee). Do my hair. Go to work. Play in Excel for 8 hours. Go home. Drank (water or iced tea with dinner). Get high and either play video games or watch something on Netflix with Sailor. Repeat. And then we fit other work in there where needed along with other events.
Why is Amanda the best ever?
SS: I dont know, why are YOU the best ever!
IFH: She loves me for me. No matter who I am at that moment. She loves me. And nobody else in my life ever has.
What narration do you have in queue that you're most excited to do?
SS: A story by deadnspread that i have been waiting two months to record that i cant remember the name of
IFH: I honestly have one series that we have been trying to get the chance to narrate, but the audio narration rights are, unfortunately locked tight. And that is the David FUCKING King series. Harrison. Man. If that ever falls through, you know how to get your people in touch with my people!
Why do the alarms similar to the one in the Silent Hill movies make me panic in a way no other sort of alarm does?
SS: They make us all panic.
IFH: Funny story: One of those went off in Vegas when I was out at around 2 am. About 50 people came out of their homes and walked into the park across from my house and stood there while the siren went off. Once it ended, they turned around and went back inside. No noise. No action. Just into the park at the sound of the alarm and back to bed when its done. What the fuck?
Do you know much about the "why" behind the "what" when talking about fear?
IFH: That’s what I want to learn with everyone. That is literally the basis of Irrational Fears. I like to think I know it when it comes to some fears, but I always want to expand on that.
SS: I would say yes and thats what our newest segment is dedicated to.

SS: I would love to do cartoons. I feel like that doesn't entirely count but I'm saying it.

Which of all fears is the most irrational ones? I had a friend who was super scared of kittens. Should I be scared of kittens?
IFH: If he can’t explain why kittens are scary, then I’d say it’s pretty irrational. I, for one, love kittens. But I am fucking terrified of insects. If the can fly and buzz, I lose my shit. Even after I know it’s a horsefly, if it flies past me again, I jump…
SS: No, kittens are cutes. The most irrational fear is the one you don't talk about
